We've got a Bombard AX3 which is 2.3 m. About £350.00 if I remember rightly, a couple of years ago. Of course, it's not a state of the art top end of the market job, but it suits our needs absolutely fine, and carries me (fat git) + SWMBO and 2 kids in comfort and safety, propelled by a 2 hp Mariner. Construction seems reasonably robust. Unlike an Avon, it probably won't be around in 20 years' time, but I guess (a) it will last at least 10 years and (b) it's less than half the price of an equivalent Avon. Go figure.
Think it was "best budget buy" in a group test in one of the IPC titles last year.
I bought a Wetline 2.3m slatted floor infatable from discount sailing .com last year. Excelent value for money I can honestly reccomend it, discount sailing were excelent to deal with. Have a look http://www.discountsailing.com/store/default.php?cPath=500_501

Saw some very nice american model in COSTCO the other day, looked very well made and about £300, incl inflatable keel, outboard transom etc. Well worth a look if there's one near you. Paul
Depending on what your usage is going to be there are plenty on the market in your price range, I have a Plastimo which is fine for my needs. If I were buying again though I would look for one with an inflatable floor and keel as close manouvering one with a wooden latted flat floor is......er....... interesting - I would even break the budget a little if needed.
