Evening, all.
Any suggestions as to how to manage a one year old on board? Ideally, I would like a child seat in the dinette, so that I can have him restrained while I'm at the gas. Also when underway in the rain. On the fly, we can manage something ourselves, but there isn't anywhere to put a childseat inside, as I don't have anything I can strap it to.
Thanks in advance.

Hi ya,tough one here we used a combination of what we already had for the babies,a spare buggy, and car seat, were very handy to leave on board for "restrained moments" and a child travel cot was great, its not an easy time for the parent that is minding at the time but it passes very quickly, too quickly indeed..............next question will be what sized rib for my kid to handle on their own!!!

We've got a "high chair" that screws onto the saloon table with a couple of clamps which works very well. The 4th Mate sits in it looking aft when underway with various indispensibles (stuffed giraffe...) tied on with string. I can see him from the helm and he's completely immobilised, so I only have to think about the 2nd and 3rd mates jumping overboard.

We used an old child car seat (rigid type with integral back), then screwed two eyes into the seat back (in a concealled location near a join in the seat) - then strapped the child seat to the eyes using heavy duty webbiing (like narrow seat belt material). Has worked very well for 3 seasons. Youngest now outgrown seat so are back to keeping close eye on him.

We used a car seat with bungees to secure it in place. When he was old enough to sit we then allowed him to sit at the helm seating but with a lap belt that I made out of wide strapping. Our main problem was not under way - he usually fell asleep or moaned about the noise of the engine. It's in the marina or at anchor when you need 36 pairs of eyes and a pacemaker. Invest in a good lifejacket and get them in the pool quickly to learn about being confident with water splashed on their faces.

It is rewarding though - a trip on "Daddy's boat" is the ultimate highlight nowadays.
