I have a Beta 20hp with an indirect cooling system, which has done just over 100 hours since installation 6 years ago. At service last year I checked the heat exchanger, all the tubes were clear. Today the engine was overheating and not pumping water. After checking the whole SW circuit I found:
the water pump outlet was almost completely blocked with scale.
the pipe from the pump outlet was almost completely blocked
the other end of the pipe, at the hx inlet was completely blocked
the inlet to the hx was complety blocked.
All the rest of the system was clear, and the scale was very localised in these 2 areas. For the future what should I be doing to prevent this please? Presumably a descaler, how much and how often?
