Can I respectfully suggest that you get some instruction, from a properly accredited organisation? Then you won't need rescuing so often.

Looks like I taught you all I know, and still you know nothing /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Is this a new sport then ..rescuing loudly dressed men from helicopters.....or have I got it wrong /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Arse!! If I hadn't been nailing up a fence in between nursing SWMBO (man flu!?) I'd have been there, damm it! Even the weather looked good. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Still, the fence stayed up!

I'm guessing that you're not some dipstick who needed rescuing twice. I hope so. Otherwise, your post is unintelligible. If you wish to pursue a private joke, I'd ask that you either do it privately or let the rest of us in on it. In the meatime, Damo's entitled to believe you're a prat.

Why is it unintelligble? The rescue helicopters often ask vessels if they can land and retrieve a winchman for practice. I've had it happen to me several times.

If you'd bothered to look at his other posts you would know something about it and his style. You would also know that he is well-known here, and probably spends more time sailing than anyone else. You may also discover he is a mate of mine.

I am also "entitled to believe you're a prat" /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

So I have to research member's history before I can respond to a post? Thanks, but I'll treat each post, or at least each thread, on it merits. I'd invite you to read the thread again and ask whether it's being treated like a private club, which seems to jar just slightly with the notion of a public forum. Whether or not he's a mate of yours has no bearing.

Ooooh thats one of the new Bendy-blade choppers!

Chill.

I understood the joke, without knowing either party or remembering previous post. Perhaps you may have over reacted a tad? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

macd ....are you throwing toys out of your little pram? You really do need to look at peoples history. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

No just don't jump in so fast.

I was part of a RLNI rescue which I didh't request or want or need but they insisted (after a 700 mile passage I wasn't complaining too much)

I had given a fair amount of assistance to 3 de-masted boats for 24 hours (the weather wasn't great) and then I lost my forestay but kept the rig just, couldn't hold my course, it would have taken an extra 2 or 3 days to get back to where I wanted to be.

Coast guard decided to do me a favour, it was actually a training excercise but I didn't know that at the time.

I felt I was putting other people in danger but I wasn't they made it a training exercise.

But it took time to realise why

That's a very different scenario to where they are just looking for a boat to practice on. I used to get picked on because I boated in winter a lot, when very few other boats were out, so had more than a normal share of requests. They simply call on VHF and ask if they can put a man on board, tell you what course and speed to steer, put the winchman on, then take him off again. No real fuss or drama, but good practice for them, and for the boat being used in the practice session.

happened in that way to me too, but a few years ago as I haven't sailed Uk waters that offten in the last while.

Great pic tho and a good few could learn from them

Dear mcd. I'm not part of any 'in crowd' ..whoever they might be. Judging from the fact that a crewman was taking snaps, i guessed it was an exercise. I hadn't studied any previous posts..this is scuttlebutt..when all is said and done.

For realism I would probably have got my son's 'Super Soaker' out and sprayed him liberally as he descended..well you have to enter into the spirit don't you /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
