Please help Gosport & Fareham Inshore Rescue Service by clicking here.

http://communityforce.natwest.com/project/523

They are entirely self funded & have no paid staff or large organization backup. Everything is done by volunteers & it costs £35k per year just to stand still. In fact much of the crews' personal kit is supplied at their own cost. A drysuit can cost several £100. As the site says they will use the grant if they are successful for buying PPE for the use of the crews.

They are controlled by the coastguard in the same way as other boats & supply a 24/7 service. In fact they are one of the busiest lifeboats in the country operating in one of the busiest locations in the world.

See their website here for more info http://gafirs.org.uk/homepage.html

Every penny counts & every penny is used directly in saving lives. Please click.

As much as I support the principle, etc of the independant lifeboats the link is to one of those sites where you have to register which I find a real 'turn off'.

And even when you register, still not able to support, through living in Harlow, not classed as a local community. Rather amusing that they class Doncaster, Wakefield, as being south..... Where from Edinburgh?? Although the site seems to move the areas around!! Just listed London in the Midlands!!! And now Doncaster has moved!!!! This could be the best entertainment for years!!! What other big towns and cities are NatWest going to keep moving!!

It really is worth registering with site, just for how the towns move!! (I know, someone will say it's an iPad thing, but please!!!)

Just voted, I'm a big fan of the independent lifeboats (retired crew of one of them). They don't get a fraction of the publicity or support the RNLI gets but do a great job all the same.

Gafirs rescued me when I was learning to sail my first boat a National 12 off Lee on Solent 30 years ago so time for a bit of payback I think :)

Will never forget the genuine concern and helpful advice given considering how stupid I had been.

Taught me the need for proper equipment and responsibility for my crew. So good for them and they deserve all Solent sailors help.
