Hi there,

A lot of marinas have onsite marine service teams who can do most jobs. However, I was just wondering if there are independent individuals/companies that anyone could recommend that offer their services at "your marina". Much in the same way as one might get quotes for jobs in and around your home?

Our boat is currently drying out at Bray and there are a few odd jobs that I'm trying to get some competitive quotes for e.g. painting, antifouling, engine servicing, etc. The team at Bray are great but I feel like a bit of a captive audience!

Any "onsite" services at marinas are usually independent of the marina management itself and I believe that is certainly the case at Bray. There are many independent engineers and other services that go inside marinas to carry out work on owners boats. They are usually required to pay a relatively small "access fee" to the marina operator to carry out work within the marina and also to demonstrate that they are properly insured etc.

I was very pleasantly surprised when I had a major breakdown last year while wintering at Bray.

The Bray team were very helpful and more to the point their rates were very competitive, somewhat less than those At Another Place.

If you get them to quote it would be interesting to know if the above holds true for you.

Yes, I've found the Bray marina services to be very good but having not used any other firm it is difficult to compare. If anyone has any recommendations of external individuals/companies that operate in the Bray area I would be very interested.

I have dealt with Terry several times at Bray.

Always pleased with the work, and conscientiousness with which the work is done, for example I recently asked him to change the engine fuel filters, but he also cleaned out the pre-filters and gave me a report on the fuel supply system. nice touch...

Communications are a little retrograde, I asked him to do some work over the winter, and heard nothing until he called me to say it was nearly completed!!

Bear in mind he also responds well to emergencies apparently, I have no problems recommending him.

I have tried to deal with a few other people and been wholly unimpressed with their unreliability and failure to respond to phone calls etc.

Thanks chaps :)

I always found it rather odd when customers of mine were genuinely surprised when I turned up at the appointed date and time - apparently not many of my (ex) brethren are any good at that. I consider it a very basic courtesy to actually turn up!!

I work in a Mercedes dealership, and when you say you're going to do something, it HAS to be done at EXACTLY the time promised, with regular updates....

End of.

I work for an airline. When we say we're going to do something (like depart a plane to a schedule) we have to do it exactly when we say we're going to too. Mostly. Well, occasionally. Ok, sometimes. ATC get grumpy when we're late - it messes up their plans.
