Inconvient impeller change

Any yanmar engine with the water pump driven by a separate belt to the alternator is a doddle. Undo two bolts, remove pump, change impellor, replace and tension belt.

Done this lots. (y)
Added precision to say that it is a PITA on Yanmar 4JH2/4JH3 engines (which are very common for 75HP - 110HP shaft drive sailing boats).

Quoting Vic, "Directly driven water pump on a Beta engine. The location of the pump is excellent in this design, ideally placed for maintenance of the impeller."

Unless you have a cat, with poor access to the front of the engine. Replacing the pumps on Jazzcat turned into a double engine out job when the fixing bolts were found to be too corroded to take a spanner.

In fact, it turned out to be a good, though rather expensive, thing, when I noticed a lump of rust on one of the sumps, and scratched at it with a screwdriver. Drip ... drip. The other sump wasn't much better.
