The incident isn't exactly "off Harwich", it's about 40 miles East of Southwold.

EADT update 15 minutes ago:

Two people rescued after search off Harwich coast

It doesn’t look good for any others.

If three or more lives are lost, it puts a grim face on things. It will be dark quite soon.

Thanks. The Times report mentions reports of illegal immigrants entering Harwich in fishing vessels, which I must say I find rather hard to believe, as Harwich is a port which is under constant surveillance, and which does not now have a significant fishing fleet.

But perhaps it accounts for the enthusiasm with which Border Farce have been patrolling the Orwell in the past few months.

It seems that this may have been Border Farce’s finest hour - they brought the fishing vessel into Harwich, and in doing so they provided a first class ferry service to the 69 Albanian passengers.
