i have one of the above units,the wind speed appears o.k.however the direction is haphazard.sometmes it is alright but it is inclined to fluctulate from the right direction to a random position and then back to the correct one very suddenly.been to the mast top,everything appears o.k..any ideas?

Connections...connections... check the plug or connections strip/bar where the mast cable is joined to the display lead, most probably at or under the foot of the mast. Salt, oxidation, etc.. clean everything... Nine out of ten the problem is located here, rather than on the masthead.
Just my two eurocents.
