In praise of trailer sailers...

Like some of you, we were holed up in Brightlingsea bank holiday Monday. With a 7 month old on board our Capecutter19 we didn't fancy the return to the Crouch, over Ray Sands.

So, hitched a lift in a car to Burnham, bought a return ferry ticket to Essex marina (as they wouldn't sell us a single - rip-off Britain?!), picked up the trailer, returned to Brightlingsea and then home.

Small boats have their compensations - avoided a week's mooring fees as I had to go to work Tuesday. But they are cosy......

Fully agree with your post. Haven't got a trailer sailer myself but chartered a CapeCutter19 last year from Sparks Marina in Chichester Habour. Fantastic boats, yes a little on the close side inside, but great fun to sail, very stable and sea worthy (SWMBO first time sailing at sea!).

Yep! just returned from an excellent week on the Solent with our Gem Micro 18 and 20 month old son. Our trip from Hamble to Bucklers Hard was a bit choppy on BH Sunday .... thanks to a weather forecast wasn't all together accurate! On arrival, being compact, we were able enjoy a pile mooring at the heart of Bucklers Hard just a few meters front the fuel jettie ... and so decided to give the Solent a miss on Monday!

Having said that ... our son was quite a bit easier to handle on aboard last year .... and so it looks like we will be trading 'down' to a Hunter 26 / 27 for next year ... It will be a sad day when we have to part with the Gem though!
