We tend to pull their legs here on the forum, so here's a pat on the back for a change.
Mrs Beancounter is not the most confident helmsperson - during our dinghy sailing days she preferred to sit at the sharp end pulling on bits of string, leaving me at the blunt end doing the stick-waggling stuff. In our short time cruising, she's not been at the helm that much either, and is not that confident "in traffic".
On our shakedown cruise on Sunday, she was at the helm most of the day, gybing us all the way down the Orwell to Harwich, then tacking back towards Ipswich. No fuss or drama, and any hesitation through tacks was probably due to the crew lumbering about the cockpit falling over ropes /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
Coming back past Levington, we decided to motor the rest of the way home. Shortly after starting the engine, the alarm went off, so I dived below to see what the problem was, leaving SWMBO to keep us moving up river. She calmly kept us tacking up towards Ipswich, between the Sunday afternoon traffic, working the tiller and sheets with no problems (the wind was fortunately easing). Half an hour later we were motoring again.
She deserved her Easter egg... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
