while bringing people up to date on the sea wych the thread drifted into spinnakers on small boats

and it ocurred to me that some people are a bit speed obsessed - even among us raggies

I myself love sailing slowly

and putting the old former X boat spinnaker up on the slug gives me a great deal of pleasure

just in case anyone is interested - Jill and I had one brilliant evening sail on the Waveney

as the spinnaker filled and moved us up from half a knot to 2 knots

its right at the end of the last film on this page

Lost my Prop

..and shaft once upon a time, in the Solent. Then spent the weekend sailing (26 ton schooner), then ghosted back into the Hamble at 01:00 on the Monday, with the very first of the flood, at 1/4 kt...Very instructive, I learned a lot about my boat that weekend.

It's not the absolute speed that counts, it's how you can increase the speed with small adjustments.
