Garmin and Raytheon are often (deservedly) saluted for their customer service hereabouts so a word for Lewmar.

They seem to have taken over many quality product lines over the past few years, eg Simpson Lawrence windlasses, Whitlock steering, Navtec rigging etc. I've had a few visits to their factory in Havant and have always found them superb.

When they brought out their new Synchro blocks, I fitted them to our mainsheet. Had a problem hard tacking up the Solent in a fierce wind which resulted in the sheet jumping the blocks and jamming in the cheeks. They analysed the problem and realised that the lands were too narrow at the edges of the sheaves. After a re-design, they sent me a new block and a replacement mainsheet with a nice eye splice. This was a couple of years ago after they first introduced them.

Whilst in Cowes recently, the Lewmar service van was attending the race fleet and I had a chat with their technician about the Synchro blocks. He came down to the boat shortly afterwards and had a look around. Ten minutes later he came back with replacement multiple blocks telling me there had been a slight improvement which I could benefit from.

Great company and great service. No connection at all.

I would second that - I have a SL Sprint windlass that seized up and I found Lewmar (the new distributors) tech support to be a mine of useful information and help.

I had no end of trouble getting the windlass off the boat and dissasembled (see my post re drilling out stainless bolts) in the end I hit a wall that could only be resolved by breaking something. I called them a number of times and they were very helpfull in the end I gave up and they said bring it down and we will look at it.

I dropped it off just before lunch today and before i got back to the office there was an email telling me they had got the windlass stripped. Unfortunately the windlass is beyond economical repair but they made me a very fair offer on a new replacement unit

Well done Roland and Rich at Lewmar

You never know how good a company is until a problem arises or you need help and tech' advise. Good on Lewmar, Raymarine and Garmin. Its comforting to know its their kit on my boat.

Another point, apart from Garmin, the other two are British!!! (are'nt they?)

OK I'll join in the praise of Lewmar. I recently contacted Rich by email for service details on an obsolete winch. Service manual PDFs (not on their website) and advice sent back very quickly -attachment to big to get through my company email at first so he faxed them - great service
