Never needed one before but boatyard now charging for electricity usage on the pontoon and we have to supply our own meter. Anyone got one or know where I can get one please? Have posted on wanted ads but I know not everyone reads them and I need one urgently!

Surely the boatyard will know where to find one?

It's nearly 3 years since the marina I'm in required us to use MeterMaid meters. Previously we could fit meters within the boat but the advent of Covid meant that they could no longer require staff to board boats to read meters. They arranged for the chandlery on site to supply MeterMaids at a price well below the price of the one in the link.

Recently fitted some in domestic situations. Standard rail mount and same size as a trip. About 15 euro. off Amazon. Enclosure might be a bit more?

This is what some people at our local MDL have done, and I would have done if I’d known more before I bought my metermaid!
Before fitting one of the alternative DIY meter solutions, check with the marina. Our marina will only permit metered electricity using the Metermaid devices. Previously allowed one alternative but after some reports (elsewhere) of failures which “could cause a fire”, now it is Metermaid or pay daily fee.

And they don't want to specify the type, install it, and verify function? Certainly they don't want slip owners messing with 240V wiring.

That's hysterically ... disjointed and dangerous. Ask for more details.

All a bit vague, is this a knee jerk reaction or ulterior motive on the part of the marina. Whilst I fully appreciate the concerns associated with DIY units, of any description, I would suggest that any any safety concerns cannot be resolved just by insisting on unit XXXX. I have, not so long ago, tested two Metermaid units which were positively lethal with ingress of moisture, lack of earth continuity and evidence of overheating both in the plugs/sockets and internally in the units when they were cut open after being condemned. If the marina wants to invoke H&S then they could place the onus on the berth holder to provide prove of compliance. i.e. PAT test. Or provide on site permanent metering, see below.
I can think of valid arguments, involving regulations and BS for cables and their use, which would preclude the the use of inline meters of any type.
I won't go into that here, if anyone is interested they can do their own research. However they should make sure that they have a nice quite, dark, padded room handy!!
As an aside the F4 unit is advertised as IP67. Note the plugs and sockets are only IP 44!!

I am not claiming to be a technical expert. Just pointed out need to speak to marina before buying/making an alternative solution as some/many marinas do not permit alternatives. If an electrical expert you could try negotiating with them - good luck.
