Just read the account on the back page of the current issue of MBY and full respect to the guys wife who got down and dirty and fixed the fault when the Smartcraft system came up with 'Lost Communication'.
I have seen this a couple of times and found that if you switch off the power and unplug harness at the back of the rev counter and speedo, then reconnect and power up it usually clears this fault, we have changed a few revcounters because of this fault but as a rule the problem went away.
So in an emergency try this to get you home, but obviously and engineer should go over the system to make sure there are no other faults.
I never feel totally happy when you have fault codes but no obvious fault, and then after clearing them you run a full system test which comes up 'no faults present' .
We techies much prefer to find a failed component or bad connection so we know we have repaired something.
