Hello everybody. I'm looking for a bit of heaven and this is my shopping list.

I'm after somewhere for a week (maybe two weeks) holiday in first two weeks of August. Villa or apartment with access to swimming pool. On or close to sheltered water (estuary or similar) but within reach of open water for watersports. In the UK or possibly Brittany so close enough to trail the RIB. Easy access to mooring for RIB needed.

Last year we had a week in Salcombe which fitted the bill exactly and (sheer luck) we had perfect weather. Like to do something similar but possibly somewhere with better chance of good weather.

Does anybody know: (i) where such a place exists (ii) how I can get a bit of it?

as a slightly out of box idea, what about Lake Como (Italy, not US). Stunning scenery. Not sure what local regs are on launching and water sports, but villa or apartment on waterside with swimming pool not a problem. Bit of a trek with Rib, but wonderful location.

Can't guarantee good weather here or access to villa with pool, but Newport, West Wales or Cardigan have slips with moorings nearby and some stunning scenery to cruise, as does Milford Haven.

Well it won't be in the UK 'cos you can't get a better chance of good weather here than in Salcombe !!!!!
Have you thought about somewhere on the R.Fal as you'd have a much bigger cruising area there, if the weather wasn't too brilliant. Similarly somewhere on the Tamar.

As Whisper syas, there's miles of coastline and billions of creeks and inlets around Falmouth, Landsend, and all the way up to Fowey. Can't garauntee the weather tho', but in saying, we are out and about 11.5 months of the year. Also, stacks of rib owners around here and the popularity is growing wildly.

The area round the River Belon (S. Brittany) is very nice and the climate, in summer, is noticeably better than N Brittany: we stayed near a place called Moelan-sur-Mer a couple of years ago and there were excellent beaches nearby at places like Kerfany. River Belon is a bit like the Beaulieu river - unspoiled and lots of small craft moorings - and opens out into an estuary with the River Aven. At high tide you can get up to Pont Aven, which is a picturesque and arty town with a good market.

Problem with most of the places on the coast is that they have the sea, so don't have pools. We stayed at a really nice old Manor House called Le Manoir de Kerroc'h, about 5 km inland and with a swimming pool and lots of safe open space for the kids. Fab, but probably booked solid for August, I'm afraid. Excellent meal at Les Moulins du Duc, about 5 km north of Moelan.

Otherwise, the area round Auray and Golfe de Morbihan is also really nice. All about 2-3 hours' drive from St Malo; p'raps a bit more if you're pulling a rib behind you.
