Importing engines

Hi Everyone.
Do you have an opinion on importing Mercruiser Engines from the states,Having just Blown one up. Clearly they are temptingly cheap but the risk is No warranty support. Has anyone done this and did you get your fingers burnt.

It`s an old 3 litre 4 pot,I am unfortunate enough to have a pair. The stb is closed cooling as it runs the calorifier and has always been good,the port is raw water so has had salt water flush for fifteen years so will no doubt be rotten as a pear internally hence not worth a rebuild,it has stripped the cam drive gear. At a most convenient point in the season /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I imported an Alpha leg from the US without a problem from Doug Russel Marine. They do engines also.
