I have a Yanmar 4JH2-DTE engine in my boat. I was quoted £44 or so for a spare impeller at the boat show, but notice that ASAP sell Johnson and Jabsco impellers for less than half or a third of that respectively. Has anyone any experience of these, good or bad? Also can anyone confirm the correct part numbers for my engine, as the manual is on the boat in Turkey?

good experiences.
you can also buy JABSCO stuff (and get free advice) from Cleghorm Waring the UK distributors for JABSCO
http://www.cleghorn.co.uk/
Cleghorn have a spare part wizard which might help identify the pump/part .
You might note that there are market differences in impellers. I discovered that mine were US style (10 bladed) and the UK version was 6 bladed and less than half the price.

Bought a Yanmar impeller and found when I removed the packaging and looked at the small lettering on the hub, it was made by Johnson.

I plan to look at the ASAP impellers which are specified to run dry.

Sorry to disillusion you, but talked to ASAP at the show on Friday about these "run dry" impellors and as the US manufacturers have put their prices up so much ASAP have stopped importing them! Apparently not enough peope were buying them to keep the prices down. They will only run dry for about 15 mins, but that's surely enough to be able to let you get yourself out of some of your troubles before shutting down?

I had impeller failure on my !GM10 in Sept. Found that the core had separated from the outer rubber bladed part which no longer turned. Worse I noticed it too was a Johnson fitted by previous owner. I ordered and received a few days ago a Globe impeller from ASAP - one of those run dry type which has a better fix beween the core and rubber bladed part. I am disappointed if they stop selling them as a few of my pals are interested.

Word of warning
Before re-fitting the new impellor when you get it check all the infeed/outfeed pipework for broken impellor vein parts,if you do not you run the risk of righting-off the new pump.
As above have said I also had problems but found ASAP sorted them for me,good company use them regular with no problems.
Good luck

I also talked to ASAP, story I got was that the makers will only supply them if they give up selling other makes!
Yanmar spares place at LIBS claimed that the Globe blue impellers wear out quickly, then tried to sell me a genuine Yanmar one at £44 plus! (If it is made by Johnson that price is a total rip off)
ASAP have Johnson & Jabsco so I guess I will buy one from them.
