How much is the increased cost of diesel impacting on your boating activities?

Are you consciously aware of changing your pattern of use and if so, how?

I used to think that at river speeds cost of fuel was a small part of the overall budget, and probably still is, but I must admit that forking out well over £100 for 100 litres doesn't go un-noticed !

Not a bit, but in fairness with just a small economical Diesel to feed, even St Kats and back is only 20 gallons.

Day to day use is negligible.

However, has made me think twice about upgrading to a twin engined Boat with a couple more feet of hull!

You should try petrol!

I was shocked at how much we used going to Marlow and back (to Penton)....nearly 100 quid...It was cheaper down the coast!

fuel cost for us, is one of the smaller bills we deal with annually on the thames. A full tank of deisel usually lasts us most of the year, with an occasional top up late summer (as we always fill right up in the winter). From memory I think we spend about £200 - £230 a year on fuel.

Fuel is one of our more minor bills. Last year we used just under 1000 litres of the red stuff which equated to under £700. This year we expect to use more as we have more coastal trips planned. It really has not effected how much we use our boat. If we want to go out we just go.

At river speeds we dont use much diesel and just top it up as and when it needs some. No point worrying about fuel prices, its one of the smaller bills in the grand scheme of things.

As others have said, for us ditch crawlers, diesel is a minor cost compared with berthing and maintenance. Diesel has gone up 30% since we bought Rafiki, but it is still 30% of not a lot.

Chartering in Holland this Summer, in the past would have gone in our own boat.
Mind you the problems of UK boats being fined for having red diesel in their tanks passing through Belgium is not much incentive either.

No coastal trips for me this year. Can't afford it.

River consumption is negligible - maybe a couple of hundred quid every few months in the height of the season, but even windsor - st kats - windsor results in a barely perceptable gauge deflection.

Lumpy stuff is different though - tickle the donks and I'm looking at 100lph even at 3/4 WOT.

I've had no pay increase for two years, so the spiralling cost of living in general and the diesel price has put paid to coastal fun for this year.

C'est la vie - still have a job and the boat, lots are worse off than me.

No.Cost of fuel has never really raised its ugly head with any of the boats I have owned(except the nasty horrid petrol ones).Have always made any purchase with the cost of fuel in mind.Decided years ago, even when fuel was 16p a litre, buying a boat that sipped fuel suited my style of cheapskate boating.
All that righteous indignation about losing the derogation produced bafflement around here. .Probably done as many hours boating at this point in the season as any before.

Its purely weather and time that stops the fun!

Am I supposed to put Diesel in it then??

:)

Does anyone own up to still using "Gas Oil" ? I had , perhaps wrongly, assumed hat all outlets on the river were dispensing the road legal stuff?
