I\'m very surprised....

... that considering how popular the crossing from the central south coast to france and back is, that there hasn't been any discussion on the article in the current YM about the collision between the Moody 47 and the Ned Lloyd container ship.

There are so many issues but maybe, like me, everyone is keeping their powder dry and giving it further thought before posting.

Re: I\'m very surprised....

There were a couple of extensive threads on the subject, firstly when it happened and secondly when the MAIB report came out. For me .. there but for the grace of god!

Re: I\'m very surprised....

There was discussion just after it happened Steve. In fact the skipper's daughter posted, asserting her fathers' experience. I seem to remember some "there but for the grace of..." posts more recently too.

For my part, I did the course some time back and in general tend to be very cautious in my approaches. I have however resolved to practice plots with the Radar till I'm much more fluent. Trouble with many or maybe most, is that we are part time navigators each and every trip. I certainly have to think very carefully and know I need more fluency. On the other side of the coin, many of those (on the ships), for whom it should be second nature seem to be rather too complacent. That speed in fog frightens the hell out of me!
