I'm setting up a second diesel filter/water separator in parallel with the original

in case it blocks. I've found two cheap brass T junctions but diesel gate valves seem very pricy. Presumably water valves are unsuitable? Does anyone know a cheap source?

I've bought reasonably priced ones from WWW.rswww.com and Screwfix in the past, 1/4 turn ball valves that is. The ones that are sold for oil and water seem OK with diesel (so far).

I would look at a T on the downstream side, but use a 3-way valve on the tank side. That way you can hot-swap filters. Look at doing the same on the oil filter too, but fit a vacuum gauge. That way you can see when your filters approach their sell-by date.

I rebuilt my fuel system with various valves and fittings to allow used instant connectors to a polishing rig. I got most of the fittings from Bearing Traders of High Wycombe who have a vast range of brass pipe fittings, valves connectors, tubing, piping etc.

You can buy dual filter assemblies with change over valve and vacuum gauge (shows when filter in use is getting blocked).

You can, but they cost crazy money as manufactured units. Racor ones five or six hundred quid, that sort of price. Two of the equivalent Racor housings, side by side with some ball valves, compression fittings, and copper tube - hundred quid, maybe? It's some years since I built one, and the bits were part of a much bigger order so I don't know exactly.

The manufactured ones are a bit more compact, if that's important in your installation, but they don't allow the spare filter to be replaced while running which my home-made one did.
