I have had great fun in the Taga. 30k cruise speed has been great fun this year. What a lovely super fast boat.

We've had some fun zipping around but now we are going to go bigger, slower and something with an upstairs!

I am putting a list together of boats to focus on. We can not go bigger than 40' so no bigger boat suggestions please.

Looking around I like the Phantom 38. Top of the list views will be the Phantom 40.

We will look at the Sealine F37 or similar size. Beyond these two what else would be worth serious consideration?

I would second that, but go for the 380 Commander rather than the Carisma - the commander gives really nice accomodation as well as a seperate 'bridge' area for the lower helm.

Also, these look pretty handy and sensible money too!

Under £200k with decent VP engines (D6's if you negotiate hard)

Sorry, Nimbus 380 Commander here:

The other pictures were of a Galeon 390, launched for UK at SIBS - just think it looks like the Phantoms for 2/3 the price.

The Botnia Targa 37 Hi-Fly and Nord West 390 show some charm?

Super picture of the Targa, is that your boat or a library shot?

I too recently changed from a Sports BMB330 which is the Targa 34 equivalent from Bavaria. Speed and handling was great but now I've changed to the Phantom38 which is a very different boat.

The P38 is twice the size (and weight) gives a far smoother ride but still has a good 25 knot cruising ability, must say, I'm dead chuffed with her.

The F37 was also on the list as it has great flybridge too but as I was used to similar performance to your Targa. I decided that the Sealine may be a little under powered when compared with a Phantom.

Having now clocked about 30 hours on Panache, I've realised that speed is less important with this type of boat as long as your making good progress. I usually cruise at about 22ish knots now.

Finally, it was important to me that the boat was being offered by Essex Boatyard's subsidiary Fairline Port Solent and I had already bought my last two boats from them. As you found out earlier on in the year, they great to deal with and really stand by their customers.

Whatever you go for get a ride on it first as the difference can be quite surprising.

Good luck at the show and keep us posted. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'm guessing as you have a Fairline and are considering another Fairline or a Sealine, that you prefer the more modern styling, and will therefore not want a Nimbus (which looks like a telephone box) or the Botnia (which would need some serious styling mods to look as good as a telephone box)

Personally I think the two boats you've come up with are best options 'cos of the relatively predictable depreciation, but some other options are:

Galeon 390 - cheaper but resale value?
Rodman 38 - the small flybridge is the best of the range IMO
Cranchi Atlantique 40
Azimut 39
Beneteau Flyer 12
Nordwest 390
Jeanneau 36

Best of all I reckon is Princess 42, but that's over 40 feet so i'm not even going to mention that you should buy one of those

The Targa photo is in the Helford River just off Trebar.

I think I will stick with the Phantom 38 or 40 but I will definitely view the other boats suggested.

Im not too bothered about selling the Targa first as Im hoping to do a deal through Essex. EBY after sales service is excellent.

What about the Princess 40? Left field choice might be a Broom 38CL or 41, both in the same price range and loads of space

Have a look at Broom 415os or 39kl. Loads more internal space than flybridge boat of same length and outside helm at push of a button. 415 serious offshore cruiser. 39kl hull is amazing in heavy seas especially beam on in an F6 and your still managing 22kt with no slamming or rolling. I like the look of the Targa 48 but too long.

Swordsman 37 or 40 with Hamilton Jets. Would avoid problems with the many lobster pot markers in the SW. Great seaboats.
