What? Four letter words like "wife" and "kids" and "work"? No, can't say I've noticed anyone using them. Closest is SWMBO and that's five letters.

Re: did he say duck?

hum. Not noticed it too much. But then I'm not all nose to the er keyboard day in day out. Still, a reduction of the number of times rude words are used would be Okay. PROVIDED of course that it not spoil the artistic realism and flow eg

"Learner made yet another offer for a boat and the vendor toldim he could er consider a higher offer. "

"upon meeting the raggie, he announced that I had totally spolied his afternoon and would bne reporting the matter to the authorities, so I told him to er make sure he spelled my name correctly"

"Sophisticated? I've been to Sc*nthorpe!"

Sensible head on

Kim,

Fair point. However, what's more of a problem is people putting images or hyperlinks to offensive or even slightly iffy sites in their posts. This may cause (serious) problems for those accessing the sites at work.

Note that this is not a problem for me as my works firewall has blocked this forum completely.

Filter it out. Ther are other BB's that I use and the software filters out all the expletives. The meglomaniac moderaters can define which words are banned, so you could ban "soltron" for example. Everytime I search this site it keeps rearing its bug eating head.

Anyway, things like **** and ******** are now in the Concise Oxford English dictionary. So if you ban them well kick you in the ******** ********* and then haul your ****** thruough the European Court for Human Rights, cos your suppressing free speech and the use of our everyday ******* language.

Either that or I'll set Pauline onto you!!!

You really have been in that office too long you know. I was passing through South Bank today and heard a load of your lot in the Pret A Manger sandwich place. Knew they was from your place they were all wearing those badge things, anyway I digress, you should have heard the words coming from them. Makes this place look tame and sterile

Re: d*****g might be a good idea...

I take it this is aimed squarely somewhere specific - and at the very least to this forum specifically - 'cos otherwise you would of course posted in the website and forum feedback forum; so who and when - or it must be only a perception!
In principle I agree 100% that expletives have no place on a forum and should be reserved for appropriate real life situations as exemplified by tcm ;o)

plea in mitigation m\'lud

Point somewhat taken, and will try to comply, though I dont sense the frequency is growing rapidly. Alan Harper's last post said "bastard" clearly in the text, which was a precedent of sorts, praps?

Actually this board is remarkably civilised and pleasant compared to many. Others will know better examples but frexample there's bimmer.org that is meant to give techy information on bypassing BMW computers and suchlike, but it is full of pretty foul language and flaming, hugely different from here.

I would rather they wrote the actual word. All this politically correct crap where one can't use a perfectly good anglo-saxon expletive is daft. We all know the words, little kids use them, old grannies use them, why does society pretend they are not part of the english language?

8 year old: Uncle, do you know a word beginning with F and ending with UCK?
Uncle (thinking fast): Errr, nooo.
8 year old: FIRETRUCK, silly!
"English is unusual in including the impossible and the pleasurable in its litany
of profanities. It is a strange and little-noted idiosyncrasy of our tongue that when
we wish to express extreme fury we entreat the object of our rage to undertake
an anatomical impossibility, or, stranger still, to engage in the one activity that
is bound to give him more pleasure than almost anything else..."
Is someone going to interruptus??

<font color=blue>The Queen gawd bless her in her younger days never used the F word when demanding her conjugal rights from Philip. She would say "C'mon phil lets go and have a donald"

Coming soon: Foulmouthed weather warning

With the increasing number of TV channels, I feel sure that the news and public information is bound to begin using more commonly used speech forms. News bunnies and nakednews.com are just the beginning, just wait and see:

"You're not gonna BELIEVE what that ******* **** George Bush has gone and done now! etc etc.

Yes, you are right and I agree with your feelings on the matter.
Unfortunately the F word is becoming ever more frequently used by the young, both male and female and those more elderly unfortunates that now think that the continuous use of expletives is "cool"
We, of course , know that it is pathetically childish way to converse and that it demonstrates a lack of intelligence and education.
I am now wearing my site hard hat.

But as Billy Connolly says

there is something absolutely unequivocal about f*ck off and no matter how loud you shout it - GO AWAY just doesn't do it.
