Re: I\'m a daft old sod

Any more on what happened? Just heard he died suddenly in Peru.
He was one of the most youthful 65 year olds around.
A sad loss.

Probably more than 1 daft old sod here.

Funny how you realise a person's worth or their impact when they're gone.

Me too

Like an institution gone. I enjoyed his broadcasts for many years, more recently Home Truths on R4.

Re: I\'m a daft old sod

one of my earliest radio memories is a small tranny under my pillow, seemingly late at night, listening to John Peel.

More recently I have been enjoying Home Truths.

The passing of a legend.

No way. Sad news indeed- he's the sort of chap who you assume is immortal and would still have been doing Home Truths when I'm in residential care.

A bit more of the real world has left us. Seems strange to think that distinctive voice will not be heard again and reminds me I too am mortal.

Me too, a bit like Alistair Cook, Brian Johnston etc. he had become part of the fabric of the nation, mostly I suppose for the music but Home Truths was a great programme.

RIP? John Peel's afterlife will clearly have a fantastic soundtrack!

You are not the only one Ken...the passing of a legend, and for those of us on the East Coast a local legend, JP lived in Suffolk. The man will be sorely missed by all.

That's literally sent a cold shiver down my spine. To my mind, JP was the only DJ with any real integrity, a very sad loss.
