We're planning the summer cruise and thinking of stopping off at Les Iles Chausey. There is quiet a range there so we would like to know if anybody has any experiance in anchoring and would like to share it. In particular, what is the holding like? We have a Britteny/Danforth type anchor on 15m chain and 25m rope. Any other advice realting to the place wouls also be welcome. Thanks.

It gets hugely busy at weekends and in school hols. Sardine-packed, with large raft-ups! Everything is expensive, but it's beautiful when the tripper boats leave - and the locals are friendly when they have a minute....

There are a couple of fine anchorages, as I recall, to the south and south-east of the central channel - through which the tide stream really charges - and I'd be tempted to go into one of those, in which case another really 'bomb proof' anchor and more chain would perhaps be indicated .

Be more than wary about threading through the 'moonscape' to the north of the main channel. That way lies perdition....!

Enjoi!

Avoid weekends - use the fore and aft mooring if you can, and get some more rode! 40 metres is really ony good for a maximum deapth of 8 meters (at 5 times) and the rise in tide could be 10 meters.

If you like adventure and can dry out, thread your way inside with a large scale chart. A completely different experience to the usual moorings/anchorage. The best guide I have ever seen was by Malcolm Robson, but sadly long out of print.

Actually, I guess what he meant was that its difficult to buy a copy of something that is out of print....
