SWMBO has bought back this weeks LIDL offers newspaper which says that as of 26th jan they will be selling Ikg fire extinguishers (powder type) with bracket for £4.99- great bargain compared to chandleries - we bought 3 last time and they seen fine (albeit never used thank goodness), these sort of offers tend to go very quickly.

hope it helps

ps we have no contact with lidl other than as customers.

We are wintering on the Costa Blanca and shop in Lidl almost daily.I have often wondered if they sell the same special offer items at the same time throughout Europe so will look out for these extinguishers.I would also like a map showing all the Lidl stores to assist in passage planning...

No they don't. Go to website link in PaulR's post and read the offers then change the .co.uk to .de or in your case .es etc and you can see the offers in your area.

You can find the Lidl stores through their website as well.

May be Ok, but the important thing with cheapo extinguishers is not the weight of powder they hold, but how long the discharge lasts. Our fire officer tells us that the cheaper ones blow all their powder out much more quickly than the better ones, so that you may only get 15 seconds discharge time. And of course the shorter the discharge time, the less chance you have of extinguishing the fire - compromising the effectiveness of your fire fighting precautions.

Having done a bit of work with extinguishers I would agree broadly with what your guy is saying, but with a given amount of money I'd rather have three "cheap" extinguishers on a boat than one "better" extinguisher.

Tommorrow I'll be down at Lidl to buy three of these extinguishers to replace the last batch which are now three years old,and if SWMBO isn't about will repair to behind the garden shed and discharge one of the old ones.I will report my findings.

Sorry to bang on about this,I now have the said extinguishers in hand, seem to be well made and have got all the right standard marks on them. Manufacturers Web Site.
Not even got the consolation that they are made in a thirld world sweat shop.
Best by date on them 2012!

Old extinguisher which I discharged into bin liner performed very satisfactorily and produced a 22 sec burst which faded to nothing at end,all powder was discharged from cylinder and pattern of spray was even and controllable.

Not a statistically viable test on such a small sample but it made me happy, and a little upset that I'd wasted £4.99 on satisfying my curiosity.

Made a hell of a mess, had to break the hosepipe ban to get rid of the evidence.

I was dissapointed when I went along to my nearest Lidel at 0900 this morning in Chichester to find they were already sold out!!!

Quick call to SWMBO and she went into the shop at Burgees Hill at lunchtime, still had loads in stock!

I can now add 4 x 1kg powder extinguishers to my inventory.
