IKEA flatpack dinghy - anyone seen pics of it already? Apparently will be sold for 399 euros, sail pack 199 extra... 2,4m long, assembly time ~2 hours... heard will go for sale in August. Can this be true?

Not sure it is actually IKEA - the article just refers to IKEA flatpack style.

Where did you hear about this? Deffo interested. Been thinking of build a Puddle Duck Racer for a while but this would be easier!

Having assembled and used quite a few of Ikea's finest... I don't think I'd go afloat with Ikea's flat-pack stuff IN a boat - let alone on an Ikea boat.

I can just picture the veneer peeling off the particleboard tiller in my hand while a block that never seemed quite right despite following the instructions perfectly started to let go and a panel slipped jamming the centreboard up when I needed to beat away from some nasty looking rocks in a rising wind.

I'll sit at an Ikea desk, on an Ikea chair, but I won't sail an Ikea boat... the fear alone would keep me ashore.

Can't decide if this is serious or not! There is no "Seglar" in the Ikea product list - either here or in Sweden... I would have one tomorrow if it was real!

I would be down ikea tomorrow also but it looks as if it may just be a one off for a bit of fun, also it is letting the water in quite easily, but there are some good ideas to be gained from it.
