With some time to kill before a ferry back to North Shields yesterday, we paid a visit to the IJmuidener See- en Havenmuseum (IJmuiden Sea- and Harbour Museum). It's a wee gem, which I warmly recommend to anyone visiting the town. It's in the former Fisheries School and spreads over four floors with everything from a room full of engines to a reproduction if the type of hut slept in my the navvies who dug the Nordeee Kanal to a selection of radio rooms and a transplanted ship's bridge. All the more impressive for being wholly run by volunteers.
Very few labels in English, but if you draw a line between Scots and German, Nederlans is more or less in the middle, and staff were happy to explain things in English.
Allow at least two hours and check opening times at https://www.zeehavenmuseum.nl/
