If you\'ve just sold your boat would you.....

Im just wondering what other motor boaters' advice would be.

If you are boatless at the moment, would you buy something that you really like or wait until next year to see what happens with fuel prices?

If I was in the market now I would also be waiting until more IPS powered boats came on to the market and particularly getting early feedback on reliability

I would say theres plenty of Manufacturers now prepared to use IPS e.g,
Beneteau, Astonda, Cranchie, Four Winns, Rodmans, Windy, Regal, Fairline, Cruisers, Mustang, Riviera, Princess, Sealine, Intermarine and Mainship to name a few.

Yes, but just bunging IPS drives into an existing design of boat is not making the best use of them. One of the big advantages of IPS is that the engines are mounted further aft so instead of having the engines amidships under the saloon taking up valuable accomodation space in the case of a typical flybridge boat, they will be mounted somewhere near the lazarette which will free up space further forward for a more spacious saloon or larger cabins
I looked at an IPS equipped Rodman 41 at LIBS which just had a big void under the saloon where the engines used to be which is not exactly making best use of the space. I would say in 12 months time or so, there will IPS boats on the market with significantly improved accomodation and that would be the time to buy IMHO

What difference would now or later make?? Fuel will go up regardless - either in itsy bitsy stages as it does every year or red d will go up to road level in one or three jumps and then continue to rise like it does today - nothings new there. Buy your boat now and enjoy it now. Offset the possible fuel price hikes by cutting other costs like car insurance, change mortgage provider, examine insurances policies, examine evry penny going out of your pocket and if possible make changes to help buy/pay for your boat. This is one of my pet hobbies and I am glad to offer you free and personal advice privately should you want it. You may already be prudent enough, in which case, my apologies. Wish you well whatever you decide to do.

None of us live for ever ?

I would always buy now as long as you get the boat you really want !

The same as go out today (as long as sea not too rough) on the boat rather then wait till tommrow !

Life is for living !

Boating is for burning our money today not tommrow !

Can only agree with Mainship. If you are able to exist without a boat of some sort for 12 long long months or 365 endless days or 8760 tedious hours then you must have a will of iron.
Ps its 525600 mins in case your wondering. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
