Thinks.........

I could stop living on board my real raggy boat, get one of those pontoon boats as a floating flat and office, and GET BACK SAILING.

Who makes these in the UK ?

My Father-in Law has had one of these for years, uses it for fishing on the lakes in upstate New York. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Glad you asked. Our prototype is just undergoing classification trials at the moment.

Pontoons are not real practical in off coast usage, but for day trips, they are hard to beat on nice days. Many have kits to enclosed them for camping along the shore. Good shallow water performance and a top end of 80 mph (120 kph) possible.

A lot of boating groups will go out with PWCs, ski boats, etc. for specific activities, and use someone's pontoon as a floating base. The wives and kids like it because they can move around, even when underway, without much threat. You can cook a meal for several on board, and sit at a table to eat. Several people can lounge at once to sunbath or nap, and if the sun is not to your liking, you can have a full length bimimi to shade you.

Pontoons are like pickup trucks, very versatile. They also make good dive boats and work boats. Some models can even carry a couple of PWCs on their front deck. Besides, you cannot describe the pleasure of passing some kid in his 40+ mph glam boat, doing 50-60 mph in your pontoon.
