If you had say £88 million

TP52. And a great big sail wardrobe.

Hear hear. And a Gunboat for cruising.

I've thought about this one a lot - that's what retirement lets you do - and I have come to the conclusion that it has to be a motor boat. The biggest sailing boat I have crewed was a delivery trip with 5 others on one of the early (BT) Challenge yachts - steel, 67feet LOA and just about everything manually operated. Whilst 2 people could handle this boat under most normal conditions, when something fails or jams fixing problems becomes a major event requiring lots of hands and lots of strength. Now, with £88 million in the (Swiss) bank it would be easy enough to buy (and run) a 100 ft Jongert or Van Dam Nordia with just about everything either electrically or hydraulically assisted and a couple of crew to assist. But, when a (huge) sail jams in a Force 8 with confused seas, I would not want to even attempt to fix it. With a motor boat, pretty much everything can be duplicated and a single or series of mechanical failures (excluding contaminated fuel or similar) would hopefully not completely disable the vessel and put the crew's lives at risk. Repairs are more 'man-sized' and providing spares are carried, should present no problem to those mechanically-able. No, my toy of choice would have to be a Nordhavn or Fleming with lots of spares and lots of filters.

Jazomir

Probably not, as in a recent post new "money grubbing" schemes were announced.

As I'm in Fatipa's deserving but poor category I will now withdraw to scour the streets for discarded drinks tins, apparently the Chinese will take as many as I can garner.

2 and an unlucky star /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif .... ah well - better than a poke in the eye ... so who is buying me a new boat then?

Well it's 3am.

I just checked the lottery site and it looks like 14 people have just short of 7 million each so it's not worth me digging my ticket out to see if I'm one of them.

hmmm

maybe I'll see if I could buy just one Fleming 75 when I get up.

Did someone say a bottle of whisky and 20 Bensons? Now I can afford that!

Just. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

But you don't have to pay a King's ransom to replace them after a few years.
Everything has been designed to minimize
maintenance, eg no exterior wood.

Tell the bank manager, stuff your mortgage - the house is yours and get in a house clearance man to clear it out. Don't buy anything - possessions just limit your options - just develop a reputation for paying on time and 50% more than the going rate for any service you require or yacht for hire.

OK, maybe one frivolous purchase - a really grotty, rusty 10 year old Fiesta for £50 equipped with a £20,000 personalized number plate.
