...your sure of a big suprise. Or not, actually. On the whole I had a bloody good day today, and saw everything I wanted to. As a rule we were welcomed onto the stands and were shown the round the boats by pleasant, friendly staff who took the time to chat (except Fairline, but I'll come to that later) - one even said 'oh yes, Jez Banks. I've been reading about your exploits on YBW' /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Didn't bother with Sunnyseeker cos my Rolex isn't bling enough (absent actually, more tast than that) and I don't like their boats anyhoo. Princess was nice, with friendly staff but no V45, which was a bit dissappointing. V42 getting very long in the tooth, despite the salesman going on about 'improvements'. Sealine were mobbed, and certainly seemed to be doing some business with ques for most boats, including the S29 (though only a few minutes). Suprise of the show was the Jeanneau line up, they had just about everything there includeing the new Prestige 50 HT. What a boat! Cracking good value and well specced, though too big for me we were persuaded by a very affable chap to have a look at the 42 flybridge. Very suprised by this, not least because I actual quite liked it - SWMBO and SWMBOM really liked it and we left with options list!!! (bit scarey with my history /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) Favourite boat of the show however was the Galeon 390. My god these have come on in leaps and bounds in the last few years. Feels like a very solid and proper boat, looks very modern and has a lovely interior and a super flybridge. Options list was perhaps a bit too long (Corian work tops a £700 option????) but having spoken to a couple of German dealers (in passing, while getting bits for the Bavaria), Penton Hook the UK suppliers are putting a fairly hefty mark up on the base boat. But as they say, everything is a negotiation - £211k base compared to Allert marine in Germany at £175k, same engines (D4 225 for those interested). My spec came in at £254,650.00, which included D6's and a pop up telly. They did offer £100k for the Bav though, so maybe next year. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

But the real dissapointment of the show was Fairline. It started off quite promisingly as we got there early after reports of big ques. Asked to see the Phantom 48 (new) and 40 (vaguely realistic), plus SWMBO fancied a look round the T38 as she has been going on about it since London. Was accompanied round the the P48, and it's very nice, though the full width owners cabin is a bit small, though the extra room has gone into massive heads. P40 was a quick comparison as we were shooed of it. I was non plussed about looking at the T38 cos quite frankly I don't want one, but you have to indulge the other half occasionally. So SWMBO and SWMBOM went to have a gander. Came back 4 minutes later and stormed off the stand. Been told by the lady showing me around that she couldn't go on because 'these people will actually buy one' and soon after by a fairline suited bloke 'come back when you can afford one'. Now, I was not going to buy a new boat today, and I may not have the budget for a few years to buy a new Fairline but I like to think that I have at least 2 decades of boat ownership left in me, and I will certainly be going bigger in the next few years. I can only assume that Fairline have a full and bulging order book and therefor are not interested in not f'cking off potential future business. SWMBO says (and for the record I agree) that regardless, for future boats Fairline is not an option.

Anyway, in summary, if you go to SIBS the boats you wont want to miss, IMHO, are:

Galeon 390 Fly
Botnia Targa 42 (really liked this, which again was a suprise)
Elan Power 42 HT
Jeanneau 50 HT

Don't bother with Fairline, they don't want your business anyway.

yes I would second that and add to the attitude list fairline and Sunseeker. At all shows they are arrogant and non approachable for showing off their boats. Why bother putting a stand at the show if all you do is pend time guarding the boats on display.
On the other hand may I compliment Princess and Azmit. On a number of occasions I have been on the princess stand to look at the larger vessels. Today I went over the Princess 22metre. The salesmen took us through the whole boat showing the features. He could not have been more helpful and gave up much time and all along I had said its interest only. Today also got welcomed aboard the £4.7 million 90 foot Azmit, but not one sunseeker or Fairline.

Did not look at the galleon, saw it as I walked by and now wished I taken the time to visit.

I have a prestige and so I also looked at the new 42 and the 46. Still found them to have great layout and design features built to a competitive price.

Dident see you there jezbanks, great weather for the shoe eh

I'm gobsmacked that you could be treated so offensively. If this happened to me, I would write a rude letter to Fairline's MD and if I didnt get a grovelling reply by return, then Fairline would be crossed off my buy list for ever. Totally unforgiveable

I tried, and you ran away !

(we were going past the Absolute stand, I turned my back for 2 min discussion on what to do next, and bingo, either you were hiding beneath the table, or were doing a very good impression of a pile of brochures...)

Maybe I was lucky, but the chap showing us over the T38 was friendly and interested, probably because of the previous bunch (don't ask). Sounds like your sales lady panicked due to inexperience.

Even so, I didn't like the boat much. The cockpit was fab, but I thought that the TV screen bit stuck out into the saloon too much and shrunk the space dramatically. Also, the doorways are made for slim hobbits, which doesn't describe me. (or you!).

The Sealine S38 was my favourite, with the Cranchi Zaffiro 34 looking good, the Absolute was interesting too, although I didn't find the 39.

Yes, i completely agree, SIBS was great today, met Powerskipper as well, if only briefly, but still very nice and I finally feel like I'm getting more boaty every minute /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

By the way Julie, I looked at the 45 while you were away in the bustling crowds, and although it is slightly out of our price range at the minute by a few hundred thousand /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif it was still a gorgeous boat and I really like the dipped bow!

Dont even get me started on Fairline! Had a go on the Sunseeker Predator 82 and the Manhattan 60 on the stand and everyone was friendly and let us walk round for ages, then as we were walking past Fairline we were hurried along the Pier by a manic saleswoman because apparently it was too busy for their clients to appreciate the view of their boats from the rear. Disgrace really, we were only walking past and we never even stopped.

anyway, the rest of the day was great, i have some great pics but I wont post them until next week, dont want to spoil it for anyone thats going later on in the week.

Thats about it for now methinks,

Chris

Re: Don\'t get thrown off Sunseeker & Fairline

For those like Jez that keep getting thrown off Sunseeker and Fairline stands...

Just print and cut this out to wear. None of them will know it's not real anyway.
Then take your time and enjoy looking at the class boats at your leisure! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
'Stuck Up' Boat Pass Here.

Re: Don\'t get thrown off Sunseeker & Fairline

I'm such a fool, I was actually expecting to see some kind of passcard...

Why do I keep telling people these things?

Chris

I can't wait to go now. If any salesperson tries to move me along if I'm where I'm allowed to be, there will be such an almighty commotion that none of the VIP punters will get a look for a good long while

WARNING: If any boaters see BrendanS at the boat show... run away VERY FAST!

I can just picture shards of Squadron and phantom flying all over the place... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: Don\'t get thrown off Sunseeker & Fairline

So you did get your Boy Scout observation badge after all!

I see you even noticed the tear in your Zodiac. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: Don\'t get thrown off Sunseeker & Fairline

Just kidding. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Could have been worse though, lucky you found it when you did.
