...and you have a chance to go to Milan before March 10th, don't miss the "Uffizi Virtual Experience"
Below is a short video that gives an idea of what sort of synchronized multiple views (40 projectors, 5k lumens each) they arranged inside a large restructured industrial building.
Sorry, it's in Italian, but the images alone give a good idea anyway.
Some of the digital images of the original paintings are up to 10 GIGApixels large, go figure!
I'm not saying that it's even better than the real Uffizi Gallery in Florence because I fear that some purists (MAFWeiss springs to mind... :)) could crucify me, but it's surely something worth seeing.
And also for the purists, it would be plain impossible to check out some details enlarged in those digital images while visiting a "normal" gallery!

very nice presentation / show, (from what I can see on this internet film)
and good marketing from Canon,

My business has been involved with a few similar projects,
Here Barco still is considered to be the "best", their "venue" projector range starts from 5000 lumen up to over 10.000 lumen,
not mentioning their Cinema projectors ...
but there are many players on that market, Panasonic, Sony, Casio, etc... to name a few,
Canon still is a bit in the semi pro segment for these products afaik
but they did a very good marketing job here, being associeated with some Top quality, high spec, and fine "ART" work, in a very pro presentation.

Actually, I just picked a short video that gave an idea of how they created the exhibition, which was sponsored by Canon (among others).
There are also others in youtube, if you look for Uffizi Virtual Experience.
In fact, hardware aside, the most impressive part is the "software" preparation, which was indeed impressive and immersive, when seen in flesh.
Suffice to say that the 1000+ images used by this "VirtuItaly" company (who co-ordinated and assembled the presentation, with a dedicated movie director) were collected through 17 (yes, seventeen!) years at the Uffizi Gallery...

Anyway, also with regard to the technical side, I was definitely impressed - from both video and audio.
I think you would definitely find the exhibition interesting!
...and needless to say, you and E would be more than welcome to stay in my Lake Como home, if you wish to come and see it. :encouragement:

Yeah, I guess so!
Btw, you popped to my mind while I wrote that B would enjoy seeing the real thing.
Of course, the very same invitation stands also for yourself and S! :)

We got stuck for a few days in Port Napoleon last year because of the wind so we drove to http://carrieres-lumieres.com/en/home, a former limestone quarry that's now fitted with HD projectors. Well worth a visit if you find yourself in a similar situation. It's massive.
Here are a couple of videos I shot. Not easy because of the lighting (pitch black without the projectors)

As you know Mapism I am as cultured as a breeze block so I'm struggling to see whats new about this. Its about displaying paintings on screens like a Power Point presentation, right? I'm obviously missing something here:confused:

In a sense, yes, but let me put it this way: since neither of us are exactly teenagers, I suppose you also used the HP-41C calculator, back in the days.
Now, think of that calculator as opposed to a modern PC.
That's just about the same as comparing a powerpoint presentation with the above exhibition... :)

I forgot to mention: since you are not as interested/involved in these things as BartW and Scubaman, I wouldn't go as far as suggesting you to come just to see the exhibition alone, but if by chance you should come to N IT for business or something, and you would have time to overnight in Lake Como (which btw is sometimes beautiful in winter, depending obviously on how lucky you are with the weather), just let me know.
And if you wouldn't be impressed by the exhibition, I trust you would be by a dinner in one of my favourite local restaurants!
