If YM and these forums dissapeared............

Should all non-boaty posts be strictly confined to the Lounge?

If they disppeared - I'd have to do some work !! How else can I occupy my day ..............

Its a two way street. There is much to be derived from the stuff on here, and its all free.
It promotes the YBW mantra and keeps us together and available for polls such as this. A paid service would mean that there would be many less subsribers than now, and thus a decrease in your meaningful audience.
Besides, I wouldn't buy the Telegraph everyday, but I do buy it Sundays. Now, ask yourself, would I be attracted to another brand if I didn't read the online stuff a couple of times a week?
Would you charge:
Per each forum read
Per forum posted on
Sales/Wanted at a fixed fee
Lounge at a special discount?
Professional verified advice on PBO?

Personally, if it was a pay scheme, I would give it up, same as pay per view Sports/ Rubbish Movies on Sky. That prompted me to cancel my entire subscription eventually. More pity them.

Unless of course they are considering paying a fixed fee for each post, and a percentage fee for the number of replies. tcm and BrendanS could retire in short order on that scheme.

I am surprised. I wasn't advocating a pay per post scenario or anything. I just can't beleive how people use these forums to slag of the mags that pay for these forums and how all these people, who lets face it are not poor, seem to begrudge £3.50 a month for a mag with a service, ie these forums, that they make great use of, thrown in free.

These same people probably pay £25 per month for broadband, £30 odd a month for TV channel subscriptions, £11 per month for a TV Licence etc etc.

I suspect you haven't yet got used to the robust sense of humour in some of the threads hereabouts. Read the thread on sharing one magazine between everyone again, and imagine it's an inventive joke, and see if that puts a different perspective on it.

Two way street .....

The mags probably gain copy or ideas from us ... (some would say you others excluding me /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif) ....

There is a section devoted to Readers writes - which is this lot !!

I think the mags get value for money from the forums ... how many people would not buy if forums stopped ? Not too many - but probably more than the value of keeping the forums going.

Remember if the mags ever want to gauge opinion - there's a load of possibility on here ....

I don't believe anything in life is free ....... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I agree in principle with you -

I als ofind it amazing rather than amusing the antics some will (proudly) go to to save (themselves) money that they accept is 'due' - the radio licencing threads being a classic example (not Cliff's how to knock up an Eber exhaust outlet in 30mins from scrap SS!)

Readers Wives ....

You'll be lucky !!

But I'll have you know - I've been in the mags 2x that I know of .... one for a Group meeting in Solent and other for Fuel related data .... so nurdy nurds !!

Latest photo ...

So that means you haven't joined the Crewing Database group then ..... or read through the paranoid Life-Jacket thread then .....

The bl*****y horse .... vet bills are getting me down ... few weeks back they took a 4" nail out of rear hoof ... infection started and we can't get it to sort out ... I'm starting to think of Glue Factorys .....

1 week to go .... getting all twitchy and nervous !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No I wouldn\'t

but, since I've bought every single YM and YW for nigh on 30 years (sometimes subscription, usually not - 'cos the offers aren't that great), I wouldn't be averse to having to buy a subscription to get access. Wouldn't cost me anything.

I am not even slightly interested in an electronic copy though.

Re: Latest photo ...

At our last trip you insisted the horse would cost nothing and all free, I mentioned Vets Bills but you assured me they would be minimal. We always kept horses and always remember the last coffin in the nail were the vet bills, no change then. Phone up the Pedigree Chum factory and get a few quid whilst you can...... I wont tell Svetty if you dont !

They don't always slag off the mags!

Sometimes we/they slag off the forum[ites] too

Me knock the mags - nah. Ask Simon! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif There's even a picture of me in the latest PBO. I'm not proud! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Circulation went up this month I'd not wonder - bought a few extra copies for Mum!

I think you need to spend longer on here before you start challenging. In so doing you might see that in many posts the tongue is firmly in cheek.
By the way - it is a mistake to assume people's personal circumstances - your comment that we must surely be wealthy and therefore can afford the £3 odd is a fairly dim one.
