The absolute difference is 'the square root of naff all ' in cost terms.
Ryanair are only worried aboout the 'exclusivity' elements in IMHO, which does admittedly create competitive advantage for them ... we should worry a little though. The ultimate conclusion on issues like this is Euro-wide tarriffs , priced in Brussels, based upon the Highest (most inefficient ) production facility ...

Ryan Air have in fact stated that if they lose the subsidy at the airport currently in question, that they could move to another fairly quickly. However, is this the tip of the iceberg being that they are encroaching on the territories of the big boys now and pressure is pehaps being applied? As you said, it is the more wide reaching implications which may be of concern.
I dont think it will mean anything. Ryanair will not be able to afford loss of market share to Easyjet and others so the market will dictate what price Ryanair can get for their tickets. Ryanair's customer base is almost entirely price driven (it cant be the service) so they will have to be very careful how and if they raise their prices. Personally, I would'nt mind if motormouth O'Leary was taken down a peg or two anyway
The slots will be filled by another airline. When RyanAir took over Buzz they chopped the Stanstead / Toulon flight (bugger for me), within four months BritishAirways had picked up the traffic and were serviing from Gatwick not as often but good enough.
So even if Ryan Air do drop part of the service, if the trade is there then someone else will grab it. But IMHO prices will low anyway.
Dont knock Mr Oleary, I guess you dont complain when you can fly to most destinations for only a penny. He has been the saviour of our airport here at Prestwick and many other small provinsial airports, we have gone from not many punters passing through to 2.2 millon this coming year. He has brought air travel to many that could never ever dream of it before and indeed last month carried more punters than the worlds most favourite airline ( I think not ) BA. Every week he maintains up to 98% flights on time!!!! Guess he could teach Mr Blair a thing or two!!!
It won't change their marketing at all. There'll probably be even fewer seats at the discounted prices. I've never actually spoken to someone who has managed to get a discounted ticket - you always seem to end up paying the same as you would for most other carriers. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
So I doubt it'll have any effect really for those flying...
I happen to like the guy, I know he comes across as your normal Irish cattle dealing horse thief but what the hell?
For me I travel all over Europe on business and do it now cheaper than in the '70s. In the past year I have not been on a Ryanair flight that was late.
Fly for a penny, where is the sense in such gimmicks. I get endless e-mails from Ryanair promoting silly fares but when they dropped the Cleremont Ferand route - nothing. They don'y even have a customer service e-mail address and customer services, after a long expensive wait on the phone, couldn't say if the route had been dropped or not. Waste of space company that certainly shouldn't get any "special deals" from airports. Why should our euro taxes be given to one bunch of Irish spivs instead of reasonable airport charges for all carriers. Just more subsidy nonsense, get rid of it.
That sounds like a quite horrific set of connecting flights so far! Where did you actually want to end up? And why did the gits charge you £4 quid to get to ireland - when you were ALREADY THERE?! What a ripoff!
"I've never actually spoken to someone who has managed to get a discounted ticket - you always seem to end up paying the same as you would for most other carriers. "
How about via e-mail then.
Recently (January) Bristol - Nice return £1 each way plus taxes, last year several sub £100 return trips to geneva and several sub £50 trips to Nice all with Easyjet and one sub £100 trip to Geneva with BMI.
Seems as though you have to book as soon as the new season's schedules come out to get the £1 prices and as Sailbad says you have to be flexible. We book our trips around the cheapest flights and it all comes out very cheaply indeed. We've also got some great deals with the Easy hire cars as well if you book at the same time and way in advance.
.. that I think that both Sleazyjet and Lord Michael Leery have done wonderful things for cheap air transport BUT one of them has a flawed business model. If your USPs are subject to continual critique (remember BA??) then you are on a Loser. When your efforts are bound by governemnt and quango decisions then you are shot to shit...
As of last week I do not own any shares in Ryanair..
All IMHO before I end up in court...

Rex - nothing against the guy. All I was saying is that if there is traffic (i.e. customers) for a route then and it can be done economically then an airline will get the route, it may (as in my case) have a lighter or reduced service.
So RyanAir saying they won't service somewhere is not important to me. I've never flown anywhere for a penny so I can't respond to your comment. Not sure what Mr Blair needs to know about running an airline on time etc... surely he is paid to look after the country?
