if navionics are unhelpful ....

Navionics policy is that it is a one time purchase. The security settings do not allow you to back it up. If you get a new phone you will probably not be able to reload it via google play, which does an excellent job with all other apps. Navionics disable this feature for their software.

In particular navionics do not want you to use the non hd version on tablets, falsely claiming incompatibility.

However this is not true and they work. It just takes a lot of hassle to get them to let you have the software you paid for. Result being disatisfaction.

I've had no problems backing up Navionics with both the Asus Backup app and with Titanium Backup - I've restored using both successfully. I've also successfully re-downloaded from Google Play but admitted only when it's already been downloaded on to another device. I think the problem comes when the release you bought has been discontinued and you are forced to buy a later product (that looks remarkably similar).

For every "report" there will most likely be hundreds, including me, who have used Navionics on iPad and iPhone since they first came out and who are very happy with the service.

I guess it depends if you were one the the people who bought their original apps just before they withdrew them. Any decent manufacturer would have offered a free or low cost upgrade, but not Navionics, their customer service is appalling.

At the beginning of last week I emailed Navionics the following question:

'I have the HD version of Marine: UK & HOLLAND on my iPad. How often are the actual charts updated and is there a way of updating the charts on my device?'

Today I got this reply:

'Thank you for contacting Navionics.
Please be informed that Mobile updates are currently being suspended until future announcement.

Please stay tuned, keep checking our website and follow us on facebook and twitter.

Cordiali Saluti / Best regards
Navionics Mobile Team'
