If its not the inboard, its the outboard! Help needed.

Hello there, myself and my partner are in a bit of a hard position and we are appealing to the good nature of the yachting community. We are in Chichester Harbour/Hayling Island, our outboard was stolen whilst we slept on the boat around a week ago. We are currently staying on a mooring but due to the fact that our outboard has gone and we have little or no funds to replace it untill Monday, i was wondering if anyone could be kind enough to rent us an aux of any kind. Due to the tide ripping most of the day we can only get to shore during slack water by paddle, I am happy to leave my passport or driving licence or anything with you as a deposit. If you are selling an engine, then i would be happy to rent it untill Monday where i will be in a position to buy.

I know this is cheeky, but i have little choice but to ask for help.

Thanks, Sea

well come monday i am happy to spent £500-£600 for a reliable engine. (could even be friday).

I need anything under an 8hp. Again i didn't want to make this post, but we are in a very tricky position, and the cat has run out of food!

Thanks for your reply.

Can't help with a loan engine sadly, due to being nowhere near the boat 'till thursday but can thoroughly reccomend a Mercury 3.5hp 4-stroke, just bought one brand new from Ron Hale Marine at Southsea, 19 kg and a complete gem so far, he's selling for £525 if he's got any left. Pushes my Honwave 2.4m on the plane no trouble, uses about 3/4 litre per hour. No connection, just a satisfied customer.

I don't have an outboard either, but if you go up Mill Rythe creek to Hayling Yacht Co. (Mill Rythe Lane) there's a small business called "Ivor's Engines". Amongst other things he reconditions engines and sells them. He may be able to help you.

Again thanks for the advice and please keep it coming. I have very bad cabin fever as a result of being on my 34 for 10 days now! i wouldn't mind if i was at sea but hey ho.

ive gotta stop talking to the cat too!

Hi, can you call the harbour master? They would probably give you a tow. Perhaps you could go into Chichester marina for a few days.

I'm sure most of us would be more than willing to help out a fellow sailor / boater in difficulties. Since I have no personal knowledge of your circumstances, I have no direct reason to doubt that you currently find yourself in the unfortunate and embarrassing position of having to try to scrounge an outboard. However, this does seem to be a bit at varience with some of your statements made today on this thread:

http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2238953&mode=linear#post2238953

such as "I think you just dont like the fact i am 21 and making a good life for myself!?" and "(they all hate a 21 yr old in a porsche)"

Am I missing something?

Yes i mentioned earlier in the post i am waiting for funds to clear into my account, hence come friday/monday i am happy to purchase an engine. The problem with my job is it can take over a week to ten days to transfer funds between work accounts and personal accounts. Hence i have been stuck for a few days. On monday i plan on buying, i was just hoping someone local could allow me use untill that point.

Also getting to the bank is fairly difficult as its tricky getting to shore + the fact my vehicles are in storage in Kernow. Chichester is 10 mins in a tender or 7 miles by foot.

Anyway i do understand where you are coming from, and thanks for all of the above advice, i think i will have to rough it out for 1 more day then i will try to speak to someone that could maybe deliver an engine to me.

Temporary cash shortage

Not really wanting to pusue this, since your financial affairs are, well, yours.

I would have thought, however, that this is exactly the sort of situation that credit cards are designed for (as opposed to living on them in permanent debt, and paying out high interest, which is daft). In fact for buying something over the phone, which you propose to do, I would have thought using a cc is the norm - particularly these days for bigger items where cc protection could be useful if the supplier defaults.
