If it had a mast, would it have made it?

looked like very old rotten looking wooden boat to me

Whether it was or wasn't .... it does not excuse shoddy lifting practices.

I remember a Nordhavn 40 odd .... probably a 43 .... being lifted a Peakes Boatyard in Trinidad. I understand that they used two 25 tonne rated straps to lift it out ..... the aft one broke as it probably had 40 tonnes load on it. The boat was new ..... and the repair bill would have been substantial as the boat should have been shipped back to the builders for repair. The boat was sold to be repaired in Trini ....

Even Peakes have the ability to fit 3-strap-set arrangements to their lift.

Any lift or hoist arrangement needs to be suitable for the vessel being lifted ..... length, weight, structural condition, etc.
