For some time, the gearbox on my Sun Odyssey 36.2 has been rattling about.
So, what to do. 'Probably the drive plate' opines an engineer.
OK gearbox off new drive plate, extra tough (the boat leads a hard life) Old one was quite worn.
Gearbox on.
Rattle rattle, £300 odd.
Aft engine mounts looked cream crackered is opinion 2. Indeed they were.
Change engine mounts.
Rattle rattle. About £900'
Borrow gearbox (wrong ratio but just checking)
Old one off new one on
No rattle rattle, no speedy speedy.
Return new box.
Open old one. Nothing obvious.
Get new gearbox
Hurrah, rattle gone plus 3 grand.. :disgust:
Oh well, I'm out on the boat for the next 4 weeks, will pay attention to the Yanmar advice to leave the prop freewheeling, I suppose.
