If anybody planning a trip to the Netherlands this summer....

That's a very kind and thoughtful offer:encouragement:, which I might seek to take you up on in the very unlikely event that our long planned visit ever comes off.

We decided we'd go some years ago (in fact I think the North Sea chart I bought at the time in anticipation still shows a land bridge between Britain and the continent), but something has always come up to prevent what for us is a long trip, or to steer us in a different direction. This year seems to be shaping up likewise, so unless we take a wrong turn on the way to the Fitted Up Supper. . . .

I have very fond memories of a delightful trip there on a friend's boat a long while back. (I think it was still under Spanish rule at the time.)

An excellent ready to eat folio of info.
If anyone borrows it, can they return it with town tourist info leaflets or similar?

Anyway,if the wind is blowing n wrong directon we'll o elsewher.

We may head over there again this summer.
Prob late June into early July for a couple of weeks.
Thinking of the Ijsselmeer as opposed to the Southern Deltas this time.

Oh yes, depth sounder works!
Last time we were there we managed to run aground by relying on the fact that the whole Ijsselmeer is a couple of metres deep so you'll be fine anywhere (according to the "man in the pub" or is that the Yacht Club?).
Managed to miss the channel markers just inside the Den Oever lock and slid along the bottom. Reverse gear and slid off again - hoping no-one saw :o That'll teach us to not double check the chart......

On our last boat the Navico sounder followed the other Navico stuff by self-destructing, while we were in Friesland. We managed to get round to the Lauersmeer and back through Amsterdam with no damage, except to our nerves. BTW, the tide runs in hard up there. A friend lost concentration on the way in and managed to clout a buoy at about ten knots. He ended up with a smart green go-faster stripe and a stove-in bunk support.
