An idiot came on board yesterday and used kitchen roll instead of loo roll. After pumping for a bit the suction got so intense that one final push seemed to clear the blockage but no, in fact, it was the loo that lost out to to the pooh. The loo stopped working and i think the plunger fell off inside the mechanism. I had to draw out the excess water from the bowl with an old glass into a bucket (yuck).
Can anyone give me advice on how to take the toilet apart, clean and fix without sinking the boat.
PS. Guess who the idiot with the kitchen roll was.

I think you should have made the idiot draw out the excess water from the bowl...

oh - you did!

I think if you post a message for Headmistress on the PBO forum you might get an answer... but you'll probably need to say more about the make of loo (my toilet is manufactured by B&Q and is orange; I don't think I can help you much...)

What type of loo? Makes a BIG difference to the answer. But it may mean major surgery, in that the outlet hose may need to come off, I dread to think, "sends shivers down me swine guv"!

Oh dear.
I had this on my electric loo, jammed up the macerator. Had to take the bowl off & fish it all out with a coat hanger. finally cleared it all by taking outlet hose off & jamming hosepipe in therefore reversing the flow. Ugh I still retch thinking about the stink,

Be thankful it is not the main holding tank (100/200 gal or more in some ships) of a passenger carrying ship small or large they all get the same treatment by the punters. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
The things peeps put down a ships bog is unbelievable. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
and Joe blogs as an engineer has the grandioseness task of fishing it all out though the man hole door. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I once remember a friend blocking the outlet pipe on a lavac. In order to clear the blockage, the outlet pipe had to be stripped down. The blockage was cleared, but my abiding memory is of the skipper holding one end of the pipe pushing mightily against the crewman trying to shove the butt end of a boathook down the pipe in the dark of Newlyn harbour.

Cleared it- years of "accretion" at the upper U bend.. But the look on their faces was priceless.

A friend of mine once tried a few 'priming pumps' halfway through his ablution on his then new Lavac and it took us a while to work out that there needed to be a bleed hole in the system! He was stuck for some time - nearly a case of loo destroys idiot!

Loo destroys idiot is much funnier! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
