Identify this engine water strainer

Can anyone id this strainer. I think it is nickel plated brass/bronze with 1" connections and a glass inspection lid held down by only two machine screws

I cannot id the make, though asap and aquafax have similar with 4 fixing bolts instaed of two. It is on a Malo 42 from 2000. Yanmar engine

I need a new o ring I think, as it is leaking through the lid

It's a Guidi, but I don't think it's a current model. You should be able to make your own o-ring with some superglue and o-ring cord.

Why don't you buy a a suitable "O" ring off the shelf? It doesn't have to be one for your particular strainer.:confusion: They are like fan belts or batteries for your car: they are generic.

Work out the size of "O" ring with a micrometer and tape measure (maybe measure the strainer) then do a search. Alternatively take your old "O" ring to your auto shop and tell them you want one just like that (and they'll probably charge like a wounded bull)

Most UK chandleries have a box of O-rings of a variety of sizes but possibly not quite as big as the one you need. Automotive bearing suppliers carry a bigger range. You need to know the section of the ring and its overall diameter. The original material may be neoprene but nitrile will be an acceptable substitute. As has been said, the maker is Guidi, who make many seacocks and valves from leaded brass, which is susceptible to dezincification. While you are working on the strainer keep an eye open for the tell-tale signs of pinkness.

Thanks for that. I have planned to go to Martins Rubber in Southampton to get a ring but useful to know make.

Will watch for Dezincification
