Not the big concrete chunk of Mulberry Harbour marked by the South Cardinal, the one to the north of it marked by a North Cardinal, here:

Always used to be known as the Targets. Could be all that's left of a wartime bombing range. They used to build hefty wood structures for rookie bomber pilots and aimers to practice on.

As a child spending whole summers-Easter through to September- at Selsey Bill I well remember the Vampire's flying out and bombing and using their cannon on fixed targets at sea. Perhaps Sea Vixens too.
