Just had the full canopy replaced so have been packing it away when not in use to keep it nice and putting the tonneau cover on.. The issue is that where the canopy pipework connects to the boat the tonneau cover has a hole about an inch square.. So when it rains there is a fair bit of water running down the pipe into the cockpit.. I tried cutting some tennis balls in half and drilling a 22mm hole in them to slip on once the cover is in place but these haven't worked too well so need another solution..

Anyone have any ideas?

Can't visualise the situation.

If the problem is the hole in the tonneau, can't the hole be patched?? Or does the tonneau need the hole for the pipe work ??

If the latter, can you fabricate a gaiter out of a spare piece of waterproof material, lash securely round the pipe and then to cover the hole. Will need to ensure that water can't creep between the two if running down the tonneau so possibly permanently attached to the tonneau and then made fast round the pipe once in place.

Yes the pipework stays in place and passes through the tonneau cover.. The half tennis balls were split and had a 22mm hole in them so then could fit around the pipe and be a "mini-umbrella" over the holes in the cover but they arent big enough with the angles of the pipes etc..

Go to toy shop. Get larger balls ??

Do you need to plug or cap the tubes as well?

I have gaiters, strips of material, same as tonneau, that wrap 1 1/2 times around the pipe.
They are approx 100 mm tall, sewn to the tonneau inboard, leaving 2 flaps that wrap round and are secured tight with a cord about 30 mm from the top.
A short webbing strip and clip, with tensioner, to tie the outside of the tonneau, and outboard of pipe together over the bottom of the flaps completes the job.
Not completely waterproof, but as good as you will probably get.
I also have a webbing tensioner up to the underside of the radar arch that pulls the center up, thus making the water run off quicker, that can help.

Yes, I think I have see what you mean.. Unfortunately mine isn't like that.. Maybe I need to make some that just wrap around and lay over the holes.. Won't be perfect but maybe as close as I will get..

Where is the water coming from?

I suspect that if there is enough water getting in to be a nuisance it is running across the canvas tonneau to the hole rather than the small volume that would run down the framework piping. Perhaps the tennis balls would be better under the cover just to lift it locally to make the water run in a different direction? Similarly the canvas collar suggested by others would stop this even if the seal against the pipe was not good.

Hmmm.. Interesting thought.. I will try and check the "slope" angles around the holes and see if anything looks obvious.. Maybe I need to go one day when its raining and see where it's coming from.. How much fun will that be?? :)

Bucket and chuck it, then...

If using balls, you don't want as much as a hemisphere as the water will not run off quickly at a right angled intersection. As a consequence I would favour the funnel idea, also ensuring a good slope by supportng the centre of the cover.
