Several years ago I had the bright idea of converting my inboard Norman Cruiser to an outboard, so rushed out to buy a used outboard.

Cue 15 years later and I uncover said outboard in the garage after a tidy out and decide to sell it - trouble is, I have no idea what it is!!! I seem to recall it was a 20hp or 25hp long shaft, electric start, did have remotes but now lost, but that's about it. No engine number visible anywhere, and the cover has been resprayed at some point.

So - over to the experts:

That's most definitely an OMC (Johnson or Evinrude) 2 stroke 25hp. The casting detials, fule pump design, bracket for remotes, ignition coils, etc all give it away. You can rule our Volvo/Archimedes Penta becuase the dog leg crease in the cowl is missing, and you can rule out chrysler becuase your engine has thru-prop exhaust. Plus a million other detials

The engine block seems not to have been resprayed so I'm guessing the paint in there is original. That must mean it was Evinrude I think. I don't think it can be Johnson becuase Johnson motors were built in white and green, never silver afaik. Most Evninrudes were blue, but there was a period when Evinrude had silver leg/internals and a white cowl with blue stripe evinrude decal

So yes, it's an Evinrude 25 longshaft

(Footnote for those not familiar: Johnson and Evnirude were the same motors, made by same company OMC, absolutely identical apart from paint colour and branding. You cannot tell an evinrude and Johnson apart just by looking at the castings)

Ah, I have just seen Azman's reply which he posted while I was typing. We both agree!

I'd say this one i not a "fast twin". I'd say this one is about 1980 +/- a few years, which is long after they used the model name "fast twin"

And here's your motor

On reflection I'm in agreement with jfm, the 18 fastwin (had an almost identical cowling) did not have a through the prop exhaust, this is a slightly later 20.

Awsome engines, but would have been ****e on your Norman as the plugs would have oiled up within about 20 minutes.

Now, how much did you say you wanted for it?

I'd say it could be a 20 or 25 becuase both use same castings. Only a decal, serial number or carb jet size could tell you whether it is 20 or 25. Or OP's memory!

Here it is as a 25hp for example (courtesy of google images, and this pic is of a shortshaft). All details correct including trapezoidal moulding on aft face of cowl and the anode on the cav plate

That's some awesome outboardy knowledge, many, many thanks!!! I have no idea of a value so I think I'll pop it on Ebay and see what an auction brings unless anyone on here would like to suggest a value and I can do a classified ad.
