The top two are merchants tokens, used in commerce.

Not sure about the rattle.... Could be a whistle.

Matchbox or maybe Dinky toy lorry.

Plate from a Renault vehicle produced in the Billancourt factory by the Seine.

Hi Ramage
Yep, top two are trading tokens, 10 lower Thames st & 7 lower Thames st, any guesses where from / what they were trading?

2, not a rattle.

3, yes a matchbox toy, but more importantly...which one?

4, Correct, it is an early Renault vin plate, but I confess I can't find any pictures or information as to what a 'type x' looks like. It was before they became Renault, so quite a few years ago.

All the above were found in the same patch of soil..

They are Billingsgate market tokens

MILLS & CROME, 7, LOWER THAMES ST.

A) 1/- (GLOVER 112 NEWINGTON CAUSEWAY), uniface, brass,
(32mm), four pointed star cut-out. JFS

Mills & Crome appear as a short-lived partnership [1895]
...1897~1905, preceded by George Jonathan Mills (q.v.), all
at the same address. Hawkins (1974, p.43) mentions a token
of Musgrave & Co. (q.v.) by the maker N. Glover, 9 Harp
Lane, but gives no further particulars.

I still think no 2 is a whistle!

They are indeed from Billingsgate. The old fish market.
I think that these were from a picnic by the Thames as there were several in a clump and was from a posh part of the river.

Nothing on internet for Godier & Britton, 10 lower thames st. :(

Apologies, I didn't see the edit on last post, you are quite right it's a whistle, the ball inside is a lead one, it's missing its blower section, well spotted.

It's seen better days, think it may have been a Police whistle, not sure as again can't find any that have the same top as this.

How about:

GODIER & BRITTON 10 LOWER THAMES ST

A) ONE SHILLING (JOHNSON 32 NEWINGTON CAUSEWAY), uniface,
brass, oval (45x32mm) JRPK

B) 1S (JOHNSON 32 NEWINGTON CAUSEWAY), brass (diamond
shaped), tear-drop cut-out JRW

Godier & Britton appear at the given address 1892~
1910..., but these tallies were presumably made by 1898.

I only knew what they were from watching "Mudmen" on TV!
