ID SEA WATER STRAINERS PRINCESS P45

Hi

I need to order some new clear perspex tops for my SW strainer(s) as I have just started to remove them and they are cracked, can anyone ID these strainers, the what appears to be clear perspex is around 174mm dia., and is say 5mm thick, I also want to order some new O-Rings, not taken size yet.

No obvious markings on the strainers, but I expect OEM on a 2002 Princess 45:

Noted I'll give him a call; cocks are off and holding, the now 'open' top(s) sit around 4" above the waterline, so will sort when out again in a few weeks, or may just ask Cornet to pop down and fit them.

You can google polycarbonate suppliers in the UK and get them to laser cut you a disk for a matter of a few quid. Probably less than £25 for two inc P&P

Measure the diameter and thickness carefully with a steel rule or a vernier.

PS get Polycarbonate alco called Makrolon or Lexan, do not get perspex.

On the other hand I note your seastrainers are bolt down so a blockage at sea for both engines: you and the Mrs on board say a lumpy sea, to find a spanner and bucket, go into a hot engine room undo the lid, clear the weed, reassemble the strainer and get going again say 40 minutes in a rolling boat to clear both say 20 for a single engine!

I prefer the Vetus spin off lids, all plastic, no corrosion, no tools required to remove and refit the lid, the strainer is a basket like a swimming pool strainer, I fitted two of these to three of my boats now.

I do like the Vetus type and the reason to change, I have one of those fitted to the Genny SW inlet.

The brass ones appear more robust, albeit the perspex tops seem a bit vulnerable - I measured them at 173mm dia. and 6mm thick. May get a couple of spares cut and then order a couple more from Cornet or Aquafax...

I have ordered a few Polycarbonate lids from: 6mm Clear Polycarbonate Sheet | Cut To Size | Smash Proof

Ordered both 6mm and 8mm thick, plus one with a pilot hole in the center to drill-out to fit a hose and back-flush with Rydlyme from exhaust elbow to SW strainer, removing impeller and anodes of course.

Has anyone done this on a Cat 3126? I recall a thread, I think it was by MapisM, that proposed this some time ago, no time to search at the mo...!
