Credit where credits due, I inherited an iicom m411 VHF when I bought my present boat two years ago. I am not sure of the age of the radio but it must be a minimum of 4 years.
Anyway it started being deaf to receive, transmitted fine just no reception so sent an email to icom they said send it to them and it would be fixed for free.
Less than two weeks later its back on my boat working like a dream.
Fair play to icom especially as I was not the original purchaser.

Hmmm... Can you please pm me the email adress you used...

I have a problem with my icom handheld... I was gonna just Bin it and buy a new one.... It's only 3 or 4 seasons old...

Thanks!

I had a problem with my ICOM M33 (Ithink) handheld VHF. Found a number on their UK website, spoke to somebody who said send it back. Returned 2 or 3 weeks later, repaired FOC.

Cannnot say fairer than that!

My experience with Icom VHF radios is that they are unreliable and I don't buy Icom kit anymore. Any amount of free fixes will not change my view that the best kit to have is kit that does not fail in the first place.

This seems to be a particular problem that Icom are aware of and if any one has one of these deaf radios they will probably sort it likewise. Possibly they might have had some duff components. Generally I find Icom equipment fine and my 411 so far has excellent hearing :o

So what kit would that be then?
The point I am trying to make is that there customer services is excellent.

My experience of ICOM is the opposite.

I've had 2 fixed and 3 handheld ICOM VHF radios. All have been excellent. I still have one of the fixed sets, plus a CommandMic facility, and all three handhelds, the oldest of which is about 10 years. They have been entirely reliable.

Whilst I would not be so blinkered as to avoid looking at other manufacturers ICOM would certainly be at the top of the list if I needed another VHF radio.
