The people on the phone are helpful and have the necessary knowledge.
But what is happening on the supply side management?
Tried to buy a simple spare battery - none in stock at iCom
A replacement for a Ni-Cd, now decreed illegal by someone. So I have to buy a new battery and a charger - at a special pack price.A reasonable concession by iCom.
But the price of this pack is still approaching the price of a cheap VHF handheld! On all sorts of grounds I do not want to chuck away a perfectly good radio and buy another - it's the environment and all that.

Trawled the web and phoned more than 10 outlets of varying quality and ability. But the part number is not recognised or it's a special order?
Finally by chance located a spare of the original, at 50% of the price the upgrade pack
The consensus at the outlets contacted was that someone at iCom was asleep at the wheel! Or was this just a rare incident?
