My radio transmits fine, but when the called station replies, it says 'busy' on the information screen, but no sound is heard.

It was working this morning and then simply cut out halfway through someone's reply to my call.

Icom charge £32.50 plus VAT, I.e £39.00, even to look at it and estimate repair costs, and you've got to send it there and back by special delivery, which would be another £15 or so. A new radio is £99 odd.........

Anyone any ideas for a possible DIY repair before it goes to the great communication centre in the sky??

Thanks!

There has been a known problem with some icom handhelds, symptoms as you describe. I had the same problem as you a couple of years ago, fixed by icom uk for free. Radio well out of warranty but there was no questions asked.

Some years back I was involved with world sailing championships equipment. We had a hundred or more Icom HH.
Several went as you describe. My theory is that the speaker itself failed or the contact on the phones socket which switches the speaker off when using headset was dirty. If you can plug in headphones or headset you may find you have audio on receive again. However you may find it is case for throw away. good luck olewill
